in 2017, the Australian Football league launched its first professional women's football competition. The response from the public was overwhelming, and the league vastly underestimated the numbers that would turn out that first year to watch the women play.

Samantha Lane's book is a compelling history of women's football. The opening chapter covers the women on the administrative side: the harassment, discrimination and outright hostility they faced from the men in the game as they advocated for women to play a bigger role.

The bulk of the book is a series of interviews with players and a pair of coaches. Some of the player's stories are hard to read, but ultimately, it is a story of triumph against all odds.
