WISE Up: When winning isn't everything

APRIL 29, 2024

Save the date for WISE/R in Phoenix.

WISE/R Symposium

Dear WISE Community,

We're in the height of playoff season for both the NBA and NHL. The WNBA and NFL drafts are just behind us, the PWHL is setting attendance records, and MLB is in full swing. And that means it's a busy time for WISE members, with so many of you integral to the success of these leagues and teams. As sports professionals — and sports fans — we are all about winning and tracking who sits at the top of the standings. I'm as competitive as the next person, but these days I find myself asking: Is it like that in our workplaces, too? And, if it is, does it have to be?

As much as we celebrate winning, we also know that championships are earned through teamwork and that champions are made in moments outside the spotlight, during long hours of hard work and through collaboration. So I challenge each of you to ask: Who am I raising up and cheering on in the office? Am I celebrating not only my wins but others as well? How am I developing my own skills and those of my teammates?

With that in mind, we're especially excited to share the date and location for this year's West Coast WISE/R Symposium! We'll gather on July 18th in Phoenix one day before WNBA All-Star 2024, to delve into the important career, industry, and personal growth themes you've come to expect from these gatherings. After the success of WISE/R LA last year, and so many requests from members across the country, we're thrilled to bring it back to the region. So save the date and stay tuned for more details and the opening of registration.

Warmly,

Kathleen Francis
