2018 WISE Women of the Year honoree Lindsay Amstutz manages day-to-day operations for three FOX Sports regional networks in Southern California. Here, the senior vice president and general manager talks free time, office time and the biggest mistakes job candidates can make. 

What Career Goal Are You Currently Working on?

My current focus is making FOX Sports West/Prime Ticket/San Diego an industry leader among regional sports networks, while my passion project is to expose more women to the great opportunities available to them in sports production. There are so many roles that women could excel at, but too often, they see on-air talent as their only option.

Who Was the Most Influential Person in Your Career and Why?

My little brother. I hadn't been exposed to sports prior to him coming along and helping to introduce them to me. Without him, I would probably be a general manager for a ballet theater.

What Did You Want to Be When You Grew Up?

Have I grown yet? I wanted to be a FedEx delivery person - or a backup dancer for Janet Jackson. 

How Has Your Leadership and Management Style Evolved Over the Course of Your Career? What Are Some of the Lessons Learned?

Like so many when they start out, I have been a "doer," so the biggest transition has been evolving from "getting things done" to leading. The No.1 lesson learned has been to trust my instincts. Anytime I have forced something, be it a hire or a major decision, that didn't feel "quite right," I have regretted it.

What is the Biggest Mistake a Job Candidate Can Make?

Having a typo on their resume and to have not Google-stalked the person and the company they are interviewing with.

• I wish I had know... that you need to have patience and try to fully enjoy each step of the journey. Some things just take time. I look back at the experience I have gained, the friendships and relationships that have been built, all of which are helping me to succeed in my current role, and those are things that can't be acquired overnight.
• I can't live without my... iPhone. And Ice Cream.
• On the weekend, you can find me... at the park or T-ball game with my 4-year-old and 1-year-old.
