Women in Sports and Events

Privacy

WISE knows that your privacy is important to you, and we want you to know that it is important to us too. We created this Privacy Policy (this “Policy”) to explain the types of information we collect through www.WISEworks.org and the other web sites on which it is posted (collective, the “Site”) and our accounts on the various social media platforms that we use, how we will use, disclose and protect this information once it is collected, and how you can opt out of some of our uses and disclosures of this information.

Here are a few general principles to keep in mind as you read through this Policy:

  • References to “WISE” or to we, us or similar pronouns in this Policy include Women in Sports and Events, Inc. and WISE chapters.

  • The Women in Sports and Events web site accessible at www.WISEworks.org is owned and operated by Women in Sports and Events, Inc. WISE chapter web sites are maintained by the applicable WISE chapter as part of its affiliation with Women in Sports and Events, Inc.

  • This Policy does not apply to (i) any information that you may provide to us, or that we may obtain, other than through the Site, such as over the phone, by mail, or in person, or (ii) any web site or areas of any web sites that are directed to kids under 13.

  • As our business evolves, this Policy may change, so check back to this page periodically to make sure you understand how your Personal Information (as defined below) will be treated.

  • If you are located outside of the United States, you should know that the information you provide to us is being transmitted to us and processed in the United States and will be protected subject to this Policy and United States laws, which may not be as protective as the laws in your country. Also, the Site places cookies and local shared objects on your computer or device which are further described below. By using the Site, you agree to this.

  • Advertisements displayed to you on the Site and elsewhere may be customized to your interests and preferences based on your Personal Information and web site usage information collected through the Site unless you opt out by following the instructions that can be found here (Network Advertising Initiative) or here (AboutAds). (You have to opt out using each of your web browsing applications and devices separately.) However, if you opt out we may still suggest offerings to you on the Site based on your history at the Site.

OPT OUT OR OPT IN RIGHTS

You may have the right to opt out of or opt in to certain of our uses and disclosures of your Personal Information. For example, when you are asked to provide Personal Information on the Site, you may have the opportunity to elect to, or not to, receive messages from us by email. You may tell us that you do not want to receive our promotional messages by following these “opt-out” procedures:

  • To “opt out” of receiving promotional communications from WISE or a WISE chapter, you can update your profile preferences in your account, send us a message through the “Contact” link on the Site (clearly indicating that you wish to opt out of certain or all our promotional communications), or click on the opt-out or unsubscribe link within the email you receive.

  • To “opt out” of our sharing Personal Information with our third party co-sponsor(s) if we obtain your information in connection with an event, contest, offering or other activity that is jointly offered by us and any third parties, send us a message through the “Contact” link on the Site (clearly indicating that you wish to opt out of our sharing with third party co-sponsors).

Please understand that it may take us a few days to process any opt-out request and that, even if you opt out of receiving promotional correspondence from us, we may still contact you in connection with your relationship (including membership), activities, transactions (including receipts and confirmation emails) and communications with us. Also, to stop receiving promotional messages from third parties who already have your contact information, please contact them directly.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

“Personal Information” means information that can be used to identify or contact you, as well as information attributed to such information. We collect different categories of Personal Information from different sources, including information described in the User-Provided Information and Usage Data sections below.

User-Provided Information

WISE collects Personal Information such as your name, email address, postal address, credit card number, telephone number, fax number, wireless device address, photograph, gender, company name, date of birth, purchase, site browsing and transaction history, social media profile information, job history and application information, financial account information, interests, hobbies, demographic information, or similar information. For example, we collect Personal Information when you conduct a transaction on the Site (e.g., purchasing memberships, event registrations or accessing other materials via the Site), contact us via the Site (e.g., by clicking on the “Contact” or “Become a Member” links), create or log in to a user or member account, participate in online surveys or questionnaires, create or manage a profile on a job recruiting platform that may be available through the Site, sign up for notifications or newsletters, or page content on the Site, such as comments, articles or images on social media, a blog or other social forum. WISE may also collect Personal Information or additional information through our tracking technologies as described below.

WISE may offer functionality on the Site or in our emails that allows you to send information about WISE and its offerings to another person. When you use this functionality, we may ask you for the name and information of the other person, and that information will be subject to this Policy.

Any information you provide to WISE must be true, accurate, current, non-misleading, and consistent and relevant for the purpose for which you are providing the information.

Usage Data

As is the case with many web sites, our servers automatically collect your IP address when you visit our Site, and we may associate that with your domain name or that of your internet access provider. We may also capture certain “clickstream data” pertaining to your Site usage. Clickstream data includes, for example, information about your computer or device, web browser and operating system and their settings, the referring page that linked you to the Site, the pages, content or ads you see or click on during your visit and when and for how long you do so, items you download, the next web site you visit when you leave the Site, and any search terms you have entered on the Site or a referral web site.

Among other things, this information enables us to generate analytics reports on the usage of our Site. To opt out of your Site usage being included in our Google analytics reports, you may follow these instructions.

In addition, we may deploy various technologies on the Site to collect additional information about your Site visits. For example:

  • Cookies: The Site may use “cookies” or “session cookies,” which is information stored in a browser's memory and passed back to the applicable server whenever a request for a new page on the Site is made. Cookies are small data files stored on your computer or device at the request of a web site. A cookie assigns a unique numerical identifier to your web browser, and may enable us to recognize you as the same user who was at our Site in the past, and relate your use of the Site to other information about you, such as your usage data and Personal Information. Cookies may also be used to enhance your experience on the Site (for example, by storing your username so you can log in easily, keeping you logged into the Site after you have provided your password, and populating some transactional forms on registration and profile pages) or to collect general usage and aggregated statistical information and detect and prevent fraud. Most browsers can be set to detect cookies and give you an opportunity to reject them, but refusing cookies, may, in some cases, inhibit or preclude your use of the Site or its features. To learn more about the use of cookies, including how to manage or delete them, click here.

  • Pixel tags: A pixel tag (also known as a “clear GIF” or “web beacon”) is a tiny image – typically just one-pixel – that can be placed on a web page or in our or our chapter’s electronic communications to you in order to help us or them measure the effectiveness of our content by, for example, counting the number of individuals who visit our Sites online or verifying whether you’ve opened one of our emails or seen one of our Sites. Social media platforms we use may include a pixel tag that may have access to the referral URL, browser information, social media username or other information of individuals who visit the Site.

These tracking technologies may be deployed by us and/or by our service providers or partners on our behalf. These technologies enable us to assign a unique number or identifier to you, and relate your usage data to other information about you, including your Personal Information. We may collect and use this information to, among other things, measure the Site’s performance and improve the Site’s design and functionality. We may also share this information with third parties to illustrate how the Site is used and for other marketing purposes.

Some web browsers may transmit “do-not-track” signals to the websites with which the user communicates. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted, or whether they even are aware of them. We currently do not change our tracking practices (which are explained in more detail above) in response to do-not-track settings in your web browser. Our third party partners, such as web analytics companies and third party ad networks, collect information about your online activities over time and across the Site and other online properties. These third parties may not change their tracking practices in response to do-not-track settings in your web browser and we do not obligate these parties to do so.

HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We or our service providers may use the Personal Information we collect from and about you, including user-provided information, usage data and/or any information collected through social media sites, to operate and further the mission of our organization. We may use your Personal Information to respond to your inquiries and communications, to provide you with the membership, services, products or materials you’ve requested and/or purchased, and to send periodic marketing, informational, or promotional notices (including on behalf of our event sponsors and other partners) to you or notify you of any changes to this Policy. We may also use your Personal Information to assess the impact or success of our initiatives, improve our offerings or marketing efforts, statistically evaluate Site usage, improve the Site or customize the Site’s content, layout and services or for other purposes disclosed to you when Personal Information is submitted to us. In addition, we may use your Personal Information as otherwise permitted or required by law.

HOW WE DISCLOSE THE INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Subject to applicable law, we and our service providers may disclose your information (including Personal Information) to others for a variety of reasons. In addition to the kinds of information sharing you might expect, such as sharing with third parties who need your information in order to provide services to us or on our behalf (e.g., vendors hosting or maintaining our Site or databases, or performing fulfillment, analytics or marketing activities for WISE) and sharing what you voluntarily post to public areas on the Site with other Site users, we may share your information:

  • With our affiliates (including WISE chapter(s) and, for sharing by WISE chapters, to Women in Sports and Events, Inc.), for purposes of operating WISE and WISE chapters.
  • With our affiliates and other third parties for their marketing and other purposes. If you wish to opt out of our promotional communications, you may do so by following the instructions in the Opt Out or Opt In Rights section above.
  • With other members as part of the member directory available on the Site.
  • With our co-sponsor(s) if we obtain your information in connection with an event, contest, offering or other activity that is jointly offered by us and any third parties, unless you instruct us not to by following the instructions in the Opt Out or Opt In Rights section above.
  • To third parties, such as our corporate partners, that are seeking job candidates, if you create a profile on or otherwise provide information through a job recruiting platform that we may make available through the Site.
  • With law enforcement personnel and agencies or to others as part of a legal process or otherwise in furtherance of an investigation regarding fraud or a breach of the Site rules and policies, unauthorized access to or use of the Site or any other illegal activities or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary or required in order to protect our rights or property, to respond to a government, judicial or other legal request, or to comply with law.
  • In connection with a corporate change or dissolution, such as a sale, merger, liquidation, dissolution, or sale or transfer of substantially all of the assets of WISE.
  • With other persons as permitted by applicable law or regulation.

We may use a third party to administer the account feature on our Site, and as a result your Personal Information may be accessed by such third party.

Our affiliates and service providers may be located throughout the world. Accordingly, information may be sent worldwide to countries which have a different level of privacy protection than the United States or the country where you reside.

SOCIAL MEDIA

We maintain a presence on several social media and blogging platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter, and we also incorporate some third party social media features into our Site. Through these platforms and features, we receive some Personal Information and some Site usage information about you (which may include information about which of our ads you viewed or clicked on a social media platform, if applicable), and this Policy applies to that information as well. In addition, third party social media platforms and blogging platforms have their own privacy policies which explain how the third parties that provide them will collect, use, disclose and protect your information. In accordance with those policies (and your privacy settings within your social media accounts), information about your activities on our Site may be published to your social network.

WIRELESS EMAIL

If the email address you provide to us is a wireless email address, you agree to receive messages from us at such address unless and until you tell us not to send messages to that address, by following the opt-out instructions above. You may change your email preferences at any time, but your wireless carrier’s standard rates will apply as long as you are receiving messages at a wireless email address. If you give us a wireless email address, you represent that you are the owner or authorized user of the device on which messages will be received and that you are authorized to approve the applicable charges.

THIRD PARTY AD SERVERS AND NETWORKS

We may use third party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit our Site or other online properties. These companies may use information about your visits to the Site and other web sites, the region of the country or world where your IP address indicates you are located, as well as other information about you in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. These advertisements may appear on the Site and on other online properties. These companies may employ cookies, clear GIFs and other tracking technologies to cause relevant ads to be displayed to you. We encourage you to read these businesses’ privacy policies to learn about how they treat your information. For more information about third-party advertisers and how to prevent them from using your information, visit the NAI’s consumer web site at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ or Aboutads.info at http://www.aboutads.info/choices/.

Advertisements displayed to you on the Site and elsewhere may be customized to your interests and preferences based on your Personal Information and web site usage information collected through our Site unless you opt out by following the instructions that can be here (Network Advertising Initiative) or here (AboutAds). (You have to opt out using each of your web browsing applications and devices separately.) However, if you opt out, we may still suggest offerings to you on our Site based on your history at our Site.

CONSENT TO PROCESSING

By using the Site, and/or providing information to WISE, you understand and unambiguously consent to the collection, processing, transfer and use of information in the United States and other countries and territories, for the purposes set forth in this Policy. You hereby consent to the collection, processing and disclosure by WISE of your Personal Information as described under this Policy, including but not limited to the transfer of your Personal Information between WISE’s service providers, affiliates and third parties in accordance with this Policy. For further certainty, any consent relating to a right to transfer information referred to in this paragraph shall be deemed to include your consent to the transfer of the applicable Personal Information to a jurisdiction which may have a different level of privacy protection than that available in your own country

You can modify certain Personal Information stored in your member account on the Site (if you have one) by logging in to the “My Profile” or similar area of the Site or by contacting us using the information on the “Contact” page. Additionally, you may request to review, change or delete information you previously provided to us by sending an email to info@WISEworks.org. Requests for changes to, or deletions of, your Personal Information must be made by you directly. We may ask you to verify your identity and to provide other details before we are able to provide you with any information, correct any inaccuracies, or delete any information. Your right to access, modify or delete your information is subject to our records retention policies.

Upon our receipt of your request, once we have identified the specific information or content you would like removed, we will make such information or content no longer visible to other users of the Site or to the public. Removal will not ensure complete or comprehensive removal of the content or information posted on our Site, for example, if applicable law requires us to maintain the information or content, or if the information or content was posted by another registered user, or if the information or content is anonymized so that you cannot be individually identified.

OTHER WEB SITES

This Policy applies only to the Site. The Site includes links to other web sites, including access to content, products and services of such sites (“Other Sites”). In some cases, these Other Sites are made available via “framing technology,” and may appear to be part of the Site. Although some of the entities controlling these linked or framed sites may be under contract with WISE, we urge you to familiarize yourself with the individual privacy and other terms for each linked or framed site prior to submitting your Personal Information, because those policies and terms (and not this Policy) will apply to the collection, use, disclosure and other handling of your information on Other Sites.

SECURITY

While we endeavor to protect the security and integrity of sensitive Personal Information collected via the Site, due to the inherent nature of the Internet as a global communications vehicle, we cannot guarantee that any information, during transmission through the Internet or while stored on our system or otherwise in our care, will be safe from intrusion by others, such as hackers. If you correspond with us by email, or using web forms like our “Contact” feature on our Site, you should be aware that your transmission might not be secure. We will have no liability for disclosure of your information due to errors or unauthorized acts of third parties during or after transmission.

If you create an account on our Site, you are responsible for maintaining the strict confidentiality of your account password, and you shall be responsible for any activity that occurs using your account credentials, whether or not you authorized such activity. Please notify us of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security.

If at any time during or after our relationship we believe that the security of your Personal Information in our care may have been compromised, we may seek to notify you of that development. If we have your email address, we may notify you by email to the most recent email address you have provided. If you receive a notice from us, you can print it to retain a copy. To receive these notices, you must check your email account using your computer or mobile device and email application software. You consent to our use of email as a means of such notification. If you prefer for us to use the U.S. Postal Service to notify you in this situation, please email us at info@WISEworks.org. You can make this election at any time, and it will apply to notifications we make after a reasonable time thereafter for us to process your request. You may also use this email address to request a print copy, at no charge, or an electronic notice we have sent to you regarding a compromise of your Personal Information.

UPDATES TO THIS POLICY

WISE may, in its sole discretion, update this Policy at any time and from time to time, by posting the amended Policy on the Site. Unless otherwise specified by WISE, the amended Policy shall be effective upon posting, and your access to or use of the Site following an update shall be deemed consent to the revised Policy. In some cases (for example, if we significantly expand our use or sharing of your Personal Information) and if you have provided Personal Information to us, amendments to this Policy may be sent to you via email or such other form of communication as you have requested.
