Chief People Officer of People and Culture, Camillo Companies
Vivian L. Mora serves as the Chief People Officer for the Camillo Companies, a group of real estate and homebuilding businesses owned by the Camillo family. She joined the organization in late September 2020 and currently leads all People and Culture functions across its portfolio of companies, which includes SimplyHome (build-to-rent), Legend Homes (retail homebuilding), Academy Development (land acquisition and development), LCI Services, and Millmark Capital. As trusted advisor to the Board of Directors and executive leadership, Vivian is responsible for aligning human capital strategies with the companies’ overall business goals, overseeing areas such as talent acquisition and management, total rewards, leadership and employee development, succession planning, diversity and inclusion, engagement, and overall employee experience.
Prior to joining the Camillo Companies, Vivian served as Vice President of Human Resources for the Houston Astros organization from 2013 to 2020, overseeing HR operations for the Major League Baseball franchise, its Minor League affiliates, Spring Training complex, and the Major League and Minor League ballparks associate with the teams. Her career in human resources also includes founding Mora & Associates, a human resources consulting firm, and holding key leadership positions including Vice President of HR for the NBA’s Houston Rockets and Toyota Center (2001–2008); HR Leader for HEB’s Houston Retail Support Center as well as progressive roles in the energy sector with Constellation Energy and Entergy Corporation.
Vivian holds a Master of Social Science with a concentration in sociology and human behavior and a minor in economics from the University of Mississippi, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Jackson State University. She also holds the Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential from the Society for Human Resource Management.
A recognized thought leader, Vivian is a former member of The Equity at Work Council, an interdisciplinary group focused on advancing the science of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B). She is also active in several industry organizations, including the Women in Housing Leadership Group (WHLG); the National Rental Home Council (NHRC); and the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Professional Women in Building (GHBA-PWB). She frequently speaks at conferences on leadership, HR strategy, and workforce trends.
Passionate about service to the community and empowerment, Vivian served three consecutive terms on the Board of Directors for Girls Incorporated of Greater Houston, an organization dedicated to helping girls become strong, smart, and bold. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Family Houston, a non-profit leading provider of family services in Houston that is dedicated to helping others help themselves by promoting paths to self-sufficient; and is a contributing member of Impact100 Houston, which consists of women from all walks of life who have come together to make a collective and significant difference in our community through philanthropy. It is not surprising that she has been honored as one of Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of the Year by Houston Woman Magazine.
Beyond her professional life, Vivian is also a talented artist. Art creation serves as her means of grounding. She lives in Houston, Texas, with her son Michael—a recent graduate of Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD)—her two mostly well-behaved dogs, and a notably well-behaved red-eared slider turtle.
