WISE women are multidimensional. They’re strong leaders displaying professionalism and integrity while reflecting the industry in which they work — spirited, fun and dynamic. Guest Blog by Ashmere Prasad, Recruiting Coordinator + Sports Blogger, Gilead Sciences + nutsandboltssports.com The first-ever virtual draft took place last weekend, starting Thursday, April 23. The draft was originally scheduled to take place for the first time at Viva Las Vegas, which would’ve been a wild ride and an expensive trip for the media, because who doesn’t love to throw the dice once in a while. All in all, this virtual draft was a success, and quicker than the draft would’ve been live. Although there was plenty of dead time between each pick, the final five rounds flew by compared to day one. Also, it was fun and interesting to be inside ...

Guest Blog by Sandra Regalado, Marketing & PR + WISE Website Chair, sandraregalado.com Today is National Girls & Women in Sports Day! WISE SF Bay Area would like to recognize and celebrate the importance of equal opportunity for all girls and women in sports. It is a celebration that inspires girls and women to play and be active and realize their full power. We are seeing first hand the women who are breaking stereotypes, holding occupations that for as long as we can remember have been male-only. From Becky Hammon as an assistant coach in the NBA, to Katie Sowers becoming the first female and openly gay female to coach in a Super Bowl. In ...

Guest Blog by Sandra Regalado, Marketing & PR + WISE Website Chair, sandraregalado.com As we kick off the new year, I thought it would be important to make sure my finances are in order to start the year off on the right foot. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to attend the WISE “Financial Fitne$$” workshop at the end of 2019 to help make sure I was headed in the right direction. The event was held at the beautiful Oakland A’s HQ office, where we heard from financial planner, Leslie Pettinelli at Girls Just Gotta Have Funds . No matter where you are financially, it's important to have a financial plan. As Leslie mentioned, “It’s never too early, ...

Olivia has worked as a brand strategist since 2005 and has helped a variety of people across the country craft content to tell their stories. “I was helping companies and people build their brands with their stories and after a while, I realized I wanted to do that for myself.” Olivia’s goal was to encourage people to put their story on paper and create a storyline for their audience to follow ...

Guest Blog Post by Courtney Ksiazek, WISE Member + Director, Partnership Marketing for San Jose Earthquakes I had an opportunity about a month ago to attend the Women’s World Cup in France. Being at Parc Olympique Lyonnais alongside 58,000 other soccer fanatics, many of which were America, was a truly once in a life time experience. Not only were the games themselves exciting but being able to meet and share the peak of the world’s game with other fans was incredible. There is something different about seeing fellow fans of the U.S. team in a foreign country united by a common bond. We met people from all over the United States that shared a unique story ...

Each year, Presidents from WISE chapters across the country gather in a chapter city to discuss organization best practices, events, membership, website, and hear from guest speakers. This year’s annual WISE President’s Summit was hosted by the Las Vegas chapter , and they did an excellent job in showing all of the attendees why this city is becoming one of the fast growing towns for sports business. Our summit this year had representation from 17 of 19 chapters, including Washington DC, Atlanta, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minnesota, Boston, NYC, Utah, and Houston. This group definitely likes to take group pictures, so I have included a few! Vegas is ...

Guest post by Allison Whitson, Partner Services Coordinator at Pac-12 Networks and former student athlete I knew from a young age that sports would always be a part of my life. Volleyball, basketball, soccer, swim team, attending countless Stanford games with my family; From playing sports to watching sports, I loved it all. Growing up as an athlete, I thrived on the challenge and working as hard as you can for your teammate next to you. As a fan, I loved the atmosphere and watching other athletes compete. After a successful career as a student-athlete on the UC Davis Volleyball team, I signed a contract to play professionally in France. It was in France ...

Meeting Ethiopian-Israeli students at the ENP SPACE Scholastic Assistance Program in Bat Yam Guest post by Ariel Feigenbaum, Principal, Strategic Partnerships at Sutter Health & WISE Board Member I’m going to be honest, I was pretty anxious as I slowly boarded a flight to Israel alongside 49 other sports professional who had been hand selected as “change makers” in our field. Not one for group trips, the idea of piling into a bus for eight days with my professional peers for a leadership trip seemed a bit daunting. The list was a who’s who of international athletes, agents, marketing execs, league/team execs, and a handful of non-profit professionals; ...

Mentoring Monday highlights Virginia Smith Foxton , Director at MKTG and one of our amazing WISE Within mentors in 2016 and 2017. Virginia also added, "You don’t need to be a senior exec to be a mentor - just willing to invest what you know into someone else. Everyone asks for promotions at work and 'more responsibilities' - here’s a great chance to do that & add it to your resume without needing your boss to give it the OK. Sign up to be a mentor today!"
