Panels

REAL Change: The Evolution of NASCAR
Sponsored by NBC Sports Group
Since its founding, NASCAR has evolved to make auto racing more engaging, increase driver safety, expand its reach, and be more inclusive. Like other sports organizations across the country, NASCAR's ability to change was tested last year as the world reacted to the deaths of George Floyd and other Black citizens. In response, NASCAR banned the display of the confederate flag at its events/properties, asked drivers and fans to join in committing "to stand against racism and racial injustice," and created the position of vice president of diversity and inclusion. Panelists will discuss the business of NASCAR and its path forward.
Panelists: Jill Gregory, Steve Phelps, Brandon Thompson
Moderator: Kathleen Francis

REAL Leadership: Finding the Perfect Fit
Sponsored by Infinite Scale
When the Miami Marlins hired Kim Ng as their new general manager, it was a "shot heard 'round the world" — women and girls celebrated the glass breaking and another door being open. But with Marlins COO Caroline O'Connor already among the top female executives in the sport, for the club, it was just another "perfect fit" as CEO Derek Jeter put it. In this panel discussion, Jeter, Ng and O'Connor talk about building a successful organization and looking beyond the same circles to find the right talent on and off the field.
Panelists: Derek Jeter, Kim Ng, Caroline O'Connor
Moderator: Kelly Saco

To get the most out of the material and peer interactions, select the track that best reflects your current job responsibilities. You will have the opportunity to select your program track when registering.

  • Emerging Leaders for mid-career professionals who are currently leading people, teams and/or projects or managing client and external relationships (typically a director role or below)
  • Executive Level for professionals who are currently leading departments, functional areas or business units with a focus on strategy for the organization (typically a senior director role or above)

TRACK 1: Emerging Leaders

Workshop: Strengthen Your Organizational Agility
Sponsored by NBA/WNBA
How is it that some leaders are more easily able to influence change? Agile leaders leverage a deep understanding of their organization's goals, operations and culture to get results. Understand what they do differently, learn the importance of finding allies, respecting your adversaries, and building strategic networks, and discover principles of stability that support agility.

Workshop: Develop Your Leadership Brand
Sponsored by ESPN
To create a career that soars, it's important to pay attention to the quality of your leadership brand. This means understanding the difference between your personal, professional and leadership brands — and knowing how to match how you want to be perceived with how you are. Leave with a clear idea about actions needed to burnish your image.

Workshop: Leverage Internal Strategic Networks
Sponsored by MLS
Every interaction has the potential to lead to a strategic relationship. And while bosses rate women as outperforming men in interpersonal skills, they rate men higher in using relationships to advance the business. Learn how to identify the difference between tactical and strategic relationships and how to use these relationships for business and career success.

TRACK 2: Executive Level

Workshop: Think Like a CEO
Sponsored by MLB
It's never too early or too late to enhance your business talents, but without action, women's careers plateau. Learn the four key business outcomes that executives monitor, and understand how your work drives these outcomes. Also, gain insight into how aligning work to business outcomes differentiates talent for career success.

Workshop: Speak the Language of Power
Sponsored by NHL
The Language of Power is the language of outcomes, and communicating effectively in this language is a vital success factor. Showcase your business, strategic and financial acumen and communicate using the language of the C-suite.

Networking

REAL Connections: Peer Groups
The benefits of peer-to-peer connections are invaluable. In this networking session, you'll have the opportunity to exchange insights and experiences with others in your program track, as well as others in your chapter.
